Multi-Zone Heat Pump Questions, Answered

Straight answers — no jargon, no pressure.

What is a multi-zone heat pump system?

+

A multi-zone (ductless) heat pump pairs one outdoor unit with several indoor “heads,” each mounted in a different room. Every head comes with its own remote control, so you heat or cool each zone independently — with no ductwork required.

How many rooms can one system cover?

+

Our 2-ton system runs 3 indoor heads (three rooms) and our 3-ton system runs 4 heads (four rooms, or a larger/whole-home layout). The right size depends on each room’s square footage, insulation, and sun exposure — we confirm it at your free in-home visit.

Does each room get its own temperature?

+

Yes. Every zone has its own remote control, so one person can cool a bedroom while another heats the living room. You only condition the rooms you’re using, which keeps energy use down.

Does a heat pump heat my home in winter too?

+

Yes — a heat pump does both. It cools efficiently in summer and reverses to provide efficient heating in winter, so a single system can replace both the AC and the furnace for the zones it serves.

Do I need ductwork?

+

No. Each indoor head connects to the outdoor unit through a small (about 3-inch) refrigerant line, so there’s no ducting, no major demolition, and minimal disruption to your home.

How much does a multi-zone heat pump cost to install?

+

A standard 2-ton, 3-room install runs $11,225 – $11,725 all-in, and a 3-ton, 4-room install runs $14,125 – $14,625 — including equipment, labor, the permit, and HERS/Title 24 testing. Use the estimator above for your city, then we confirm the exact number with a free written quote.

Are permits, HERS testing, and Title 24 included?

+

Yes. Every install includes the mechanical permit and the California Title 24 / HERS field verification (Certificate of Verification), so your system is up to code and your warranty stays valid.

How long does installation take?

+

Most multi-zone installs are completed in 1–3 days depending on the number of zones and your home’s layout. We confirm the timeline in your written quote.

What brands do you install?

+

We stock and install major brands including Mitsubishi, Daikin, Fujitsu, and LG. With 200+ units in our own warehouse, there’s no waiting weeks for equipment.
