How to use this chart

The saturation curve shows the pressure at which liquid and vapor R-22 coexist for a given temperature. In the field, you read this two ways:

  • Suction-side superheat: measure suction pressure → look up saturation temperature → subtract from the suction-line temperature. Open Superheat Calculator →

R-22 is a single-component HCFC refrigerant, so a single saturation curve applies to both bubble and dew points. New production was phased out in the U.S. under the Montreal Protocol on January 1, 2020, but reclaimed R-22 remains legal for servicing existing systems.
